Some good points I see in Windows Live Writer

• WYSIWYG – I’ve heard and read a lot of complain about this when using WordPress as a platform for a blog or website. And it is true and frustrating most of the time (like what I’ve said earlier). With WLW, you are (or feels like) you are writing directly in to your website’s front end. It captures your theme so while you are writing, the fonts, font size, colors, spacing and even the area of the article area (from the first letter to the last letter of the line) are exactly the same as what will appear when you publish your article (now, that is WYSIWYG). Disclaimer – it is not 100% but it’s as close as it is.
• Faster preview – there are three tabs, the edit tab where you type in your article and everything. Then there is source tab where you can see the source (or enter any codes that can only be entered via the source) and there is the Preview tab where you can actually see “your whole website” as if you are viewing it from a web browser. Well, as I’ve said also, it is not 100% so it may vary (depending also on the browser and operating system you are using.

Windows Live Writer is free for Windows 7 (and yes, I am using Windows 7 and not Linux). This is my first post using this software so there are still a lot of things I need to discover. But as of now, everything is good for me.

NOTE: This is an article and at the same time a trial post using WLW, so if anything isn’t rendering as it should be, please forgive me and I’ll take it as a lesson.

So, for those who are saying that wordpress doesn’t have a “WYSIWYG”, then better check this out.

Currently hosted at byethost.com, I am planning to keep this blog alive, possibly start writing on something interesting. Currently, there are no ads from byethost and hopefully there will be none (I am the one who placed the ads you are seeing on the right, hopefully will earn a little on through that).

Unfortunately, I lost some of the pictures that were used in some of my posts so they won’t have the photos there. Hopefully, I’d be able to retrieve them from my former host.

Got to start writing.. Cheers!

• Blogger’s block
• Bad net connection at home.
• WordPress corrupted when I upgraded from 2.7 to 2.8

I have already fixed the third reason. I saved my posts (via dashboard>tools>export) and wiped out the wordpress install on my server and made a clean install of wordpress 2.8.

Internet connection at home is still bad. But I will be applying for a DSL connection tomorrow (I am currently using a fixed wireless, HSDPA, but only works in GPRS).

The first reason is my biggest stumbling block. But I am currently making a blog plan. I will also revive my Sunday School Director Blog that was also corrupted when I upgraded to 2.8.

I have a lot of things to catch up on (including our church website), and I hope my net at home will be fixed ASAP.

• can’t use .htaccess – I am not an expert on this but I I have set some security settings on my blog using .htaccess
• connection to external servers are not allowed – which hinders me from automatically updating wordpress core, plugins, and connection to akismet (which resulted me to moderate all comments, that contains hundreds of spam).
• some restriction on server settings that is crucial on protecting wordpress (specially from spams)

My new home for this blog is DripHost. They offer good hosting for a good price (though I won’t elaborate on that). I am just happy that I was able to find a good hosting provider that has most of my needs. Now, I can let akismet do the job for the spams.

The purpose of that blog is not to give ideas or tips etc., but merely to blog about what we are currently doing in our department. Of course I hope and pray that people might get some ideas from my posts here, but I also hope that other experts could comment, or share what they are doing in their own churches.

Update: Due to some functionalities I need, I moved the blog from blogger to my selfhosted WordPress blog.

Permalinks (or permanent links) by the way is a URL that points to a specific blog or forum after it has passed from the front page to the archives.

Supposedly it is permanent, so why am I changing this. I want my links to be more simple. I used to have links that will have /category/date/post etc… but to make things easy, my permalink will be http://www.marvincruz.com/post-name..

There are some consequences, any link made to my early post will result to an 404 error. Google sitemaps also report broken links. Well, I’m willilng to accept those downsides for a better future. Planning to make this site more interactive, I need a better way of linking to my posts.
