Dell Pasay sold to Teleperformance
I really don’t want to talk specifically about the company I work for. But the news that was brought to us this day was alarming for us. There are two Dell badged site in the Philippines, Dell Pasay City and Dell Quezon City
Dell Pasay, the first Dell Badged contact center in the Philippines (and also considered as one of the biggest contact center in the country) was sold to Teleperformance, an outsourcing company for contact centers. This was part of Dell Inc.’s “cost managemnt” strategy.
Some of us were surprised, though most are already aware of the past rumors that Dell Pasay or Quezon will be sold to Telepormance (this rumors was around last year). But the news earlier confirmed it. As our Area Manager tells us, there will be a psychological effect for us. Because the question lingers our mind… “Are we (Dell Quezon) next?”. Dell Pasay houses Consumer Technical Support for US, Australia and New Zealand, and also the “prestigious” XPS support.
One of my friend told me that their area manager told them that since Dell Quezon is under business segment (Dell Quezon houses Small and Medium Business customer care, technical support, parts and upgrade and ink, and also the Employee Purchase Program Sales) we are “safe” (since we are considered as income generating line of businesses). However, during our huddle with our area manager, one of the agent asked if there’s any guarantee for our site to stay “Dell Badged”. Our area manager answered, “There are no guarantees.”
They say that recession is the reason for the abrupt change. And I realized that the higher offices were silently communicating this already to us via their email updates regarding changes in how Dell will handle their consumer segment.
I really don’t know what to say to our colleagues in Pasay. I can’t say “I feel for them” cause I am not in their situation. I am praying that whatever have happened, or might happen, that God would intervene specially for those who have faith in Him.
Note:
The agents from Dell Pasay will be transitioned to Teleperformance within 30 days. They have a choice to accept Teleperformance’s job offer with a acceptance bonus or leave with their severance packages. Details are not that clear if they will retain the same basic pay. But definitely, a lot of benefits from being Dell Badged Employee will be lost.
I know, many will say “I don’t care!”, “Dell sucks!”. But please, we are also people working to earn money so we can have food to give to our family.
God bless.

HI marvin, I am or should I say I(was) a dell pasay employee.
I just wanna know some answer why didn’t dell tell us (dell pasay employee) about this changes atleast 1 or 2 weeks before they unprofessionally surprised us on friday (march 20 2009)?I dont want to offend any teleperformance employee..its just that, TP really sucks.
TP is just one of those type of call center that agents goes in and out, they just want to have an experience and after a couple of months, they will leave the company. That shows that TP’s management is probably the worst in this industry.

All,
I guess everybody agrees that Dell is undergoing major changes, and I suspect more is coming on the horizon not just for Dell, but even for all the companies in the globe.
The name of the game is Change. The faster you adapt to circumstances, the better off you will be. Roll with the punches, don’t take it full on, and come out on top.
So, here some questions for all affected (and the not so affected as well):
“What’s my next move?”
“What do I do so this won’t happen to me anymore?”
“Are there any opportunities that will work in my favor?”
Ask these questions seriously. It may mean your financial success in the next 5 to 10 years. Kiyosaki was right on the money.
Trust me, there are just too many opportunities around. Another job, another industry – how about a job online? Work for yourself? Now that would be a kicker wouldn’t it?
Never give up, and keep looking with fresh eyes.
Regards,
Alex, The EMF Guide.

too coolCat…
all center have their up’s and downs
in the business world, nothing is perfect..
>i feel u guys for DELL ddnt at least warn u for a month..
if feel u guys for DELL sold u to another company..
but u stating that TP suck’s is really not nice for u to say.. even if u excuse urself.. what a bitter person who dont know how to move forward in life u are….
in any organization u nver generalize that whole group as if no good soul is working in TP…
THE UPPER MANAGEMENT OF TP ARE EXCELLENT
-in our account we have a prblem with some of the manager’s and also with some of the supervisors… “yes. with out bias i will say we have a problem with some of them.. ATO, VTO…etc..
my main point here is that in any center there will alway be loopholes..
but that is life, we are living in a corporate world…
it’s how u adapt. and survive,.. when THINGS LIKE THIS HAPPEN TO YOU specially a feeling of being sold. to another company u don’t blame or say harsh things to the company who bought ur contract.. especially to the people or to the organization who are working in that COMPANY (TP)
>it’s the most childish thing a person will do…

All this suggests that Dell’s Quezon City facility will also be up for sale soon. Rumor is, in fact, that it already is. If true, it represents another opportunity for third-party outsourced services providers like Teleperformance. Since Dell isn’t likely to abandon the consumer market despite its challenges, and support services delivery for commercial and consumer customers is an obviously critical component of any company’s value proposition, the sale of Dell’s center here should be taken overall as a positive development for the Philippines’ BPO industry.

to z8____ , i’ve been with other contact centers before finally settling with dell pasay and i have a brother in tp as well and to tell you, dell pasay has the least loopholes which on my end see as close to none. tp failed to give my brother 2 months of pay at the end of last year. i had to share him my salary in dell for him to survive. i on the other hand never had questions with my pay here at dell pasay. also, dell does not offer separation pay to us with the new job offer and is requiring a “voluntary resignation” befor signing with tp w/in 4 days. threw us away and wants a voluntary resignation? that’s just not fair. i pity people here. this is a mess.

@mixmasta
Just to note, Book VI, Title I, Art. 283 of the Labor Code of the Phlippines
Now, the question is, why do you need to resign since they are technically closing?

i know the article marvin but the thing is we have 4 days to react and the thing is i don’t have the resources to finance a legal complaint. i need the job to support my family. it’s a futile situation for guys like me.

i am now working for dell soon to be TP, i have work for TP, and to be honest the reason why i left TP and my co-workers at TP is because of the salary discrepancies, not a single payoff that we dont file for pay disputes. I think that the sentiments of the people who are working for dell right now are the same as what we are feeling, nobody wants a lot of hassle especially when it comes to hard earned money.

I am a trainee of TP’s Dell account…as I was reading previous comments, I sure was getting nervous (AND confused)..did i made the wrong decision when i applied?i dont know…but since i am just in the beginning of my career, i would wanna think that i made the right decision..right now i haven’t got my salary yet since i started just last apr27…we’re supposed to get on the 20th of may…so let’s just hope for the better..^_^

Well, as they say, “Speed of Dell”. I’ve been hearing those words since I started working and they were referring to promotions and growth. But the only speed I saw was how they abruptly close LOB’s and abrupt decisions that affect the employees negatively. This news was only cascaded to us the day I posted this article. I don’t know why they do that.
As for Teleperformance’s “performance”, I really don’t know. Dell is my first call center job. I only hear feedback from other employees that came from different OSP. Maybe, all we can do is to cope up with the change. Honestly, I don’t know what will my reactions be if Dell QC will be sold also.

how far do you think one should go when it comes to enduring troubles at work? like, for example salary issues or misunderstandings with an immediate superior? tnx! ^_^
May 15th, 2009
As far as you can handle. If you really can’t handle it, and you believe there are enough grounds for you to leave, then you could go and look for another place. It’s just as of the current situation we have (economy), it is really hard to look for a job. However, if, like you’ve said, salary issues, problems with superior, then I believe there are still other companies that could provide better “care” for their employee.
We still have rights as employees.

yeah… and I believe the waiting period has already lapsed. one legal advice I got was, don’t submit a resignation letter. You could go to DOLE and report the case, they would give you proper advice on this (they said they will send a written document regarding this). And I believe Dell don’t want it to reach the court so you don’t have to worry about paying for an attorney. Our “law” is in favor of us, specially since our employer is foreign. This had happened on some other companies, and employees got what they deserve.

If you are trying to look for a “perfect” company, you’ll find none (or set up your own business so you’ll be the boss). Things happen, and sometimes we have no choice. All we can do is to cope up with the change, do your best for you, your family, and your company, whatever their reputation they might have.
