NSIS_error
Posted on February 05th, 2009 in Tech
Whenever I download a large file (~60mb+) and I try to run the program, I always get this error:
I asked someone to download the same files (xbmc for example) and they didn’t get the error. Trying some options suggested (save it on a different disc).
Was this hardware related or ISP problem?
Update:
I downloaded the file to a different disc but I still have the error. Tried scanning (full, thorough scan, avast pro) but there were no virus of spyware found. Will try to test memory.

If you are using a download manager, chances are it corrupted your installer download. Try downloading the installer again without any download managers.
Better yet, clear cache and cookies and download the latest update for Windows Installer from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=889482FC-5F56-4A38-B838-DE776FD4138C&displaylang=en). That should fix your problem.

I didn’t use any download manager. Just used the default IE7 and firefox’s download thingy. Out of curiosity, I tried a download manager WinWget (windows version of wget for Linux), but still got the same problem. I also tried downloading using a Windows XP guest OS (on VMware) inside the Windows XP that has a problem and every download is okay. I also tried downloading using linux and it’s fine also. So definitely there is something with my current install that causes the problem.
BTW, I also downloaded the fix and still got the same error. My last resort was reformatting my hard drive and reinstalling Windows XP. I will eventually do this even if there’s no problem with the download, cause the partitioning I made sucks. (my fault).
Thanks for the help…
