Just used the default IE7 and firefox's download thingy. Out of curiosity, I tried a download manager WinWget (windows version of wget for Linux), but still got the same problem. I also tried downloading using a Windows XP guest OS (on VMware) inside the Windows XP that has a problem and every download is okay. I also tried downloading using linux and it's fine also. So definitely there is something with my current install that causes the problem.BTW, I also downloaded the fix and still got the same error. My last resort was reformatting my hard drive and reinstalling Windows XP. I will eventually do this even if there's no problem with the download, cause the partitioning I made sucks. Try downloading the installer again without any download managers.Better yet, clear cache and cookies and download the latest update for Windows Installer from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=889482FC-5F56-4A38-B838-DE776FD4138C&displaylang=en).
